Classes on Management

I had one course, but it was very unrealistic. The class focused on Lee Canter's Assertive Discipline, which is a good program, but doesn't have all the answers. The program uses movies that feature kids sitting and listening to a teacher. At the back, two kids are talking. Both get names on the board. Both argue and therefore receive checks by their names. After class the teacher and students talk, and everyone is happy again.

In real life, you might have kids who WON'T stop arguing, or who just flat out refuse to do anything. And they might call you awful names or shout expletives. You try to call their parents, but their parents aren't effective. That's when you don't know what to do, because a class never prepared you for things like this.
