transition helpers
By Betsy

Clip to ScrapBook
During transition times I have my students recite funny poems they've memorized, skip count to reinforce multiplication, and answer place value questions about the page number I have asked them to turn to. I ask What would this page number be rounded to the nearest hundred, how many tens does this number have, or how many more ones does this number need to be (example) 154.
I have "borrowed" the following ideas from a colleague and they are really great. The first one is to sing a problem of the day (example: 5x6)to the tune of London Bridge is Falling Down. The other idea is to give your class instructions on what books to take out, say "go", and the students hold their breath until they have the required materials on their desks.
