Shelley, I'll have to admit that I've never seen the eyes and mouth thing before....so I'm assuming that it's for the student to make some kind of smiley face on top of the actual hot chocolate drink I've never used the chocolate chips, either, so that's a new item. Seems awfully sweet that way. My "mugs" just had: 1 package hot chocolate mix
