I just saw an article on this general topic a few days ago. It was about why teenagers so often seem to think that life is unfair (beyond the obvious, I presume, which is that it is...). The reason given was that teens cannot interpret facial expressions very well, so don't have a clue how badly others are feeling -- they therefore feel that they're the only ones who ever have a hard time.

You may need to TELL your students how you feel about the things they do. Don't expect them to read your face -- they can't.
