smelly students

We are having the same issue in my 5th grade class. Three teachers commented on my smelly students one day last week so I approached the topic the next morning. I said just like we use toothpaste to keep our teeth clean, we need to use deodorant to keep our underarms clean, shower regularly etc... I tried to be very matter-of-fact and it was a short discussion and they didn't get silly. There is one girl who persistently perspires and I think I will be speaking to her mother at interview time about her need to start using deodorant.
