morale
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
We have a wonderful morale at our school. I think it is because we are so caring about each other. Just to give you an example, when I had an especially bad day two years ago, the "girls" bought me flowers! When I arrived
at the office, there was a pot of flowers with a card with my name on it. It certainly did help me a lot!

Some things we do to help morale:

1. We have a Social Committee which creates activities to bring our staff closer together. Our activities include, but are not limited to:

a. staff parties, such as Christmas
b. Tasty Treat Day - Teachers from

groups bring treats into the staff workroom, and one day each month we enjoy the festive day together.
c. birthday card for each staff member on his/her birthday, Staff member is also awarded a free lunch in the cafeteria.
d. "secret pal" program. With this, we draw a staff member's name, and then we randomly give little gifts to our secret pal throughout the school year. At the end of the year, we have a staff get-together party and at that time we identify whose secret pal is whose. It's a fun event.

2. "Gems" Program. With this, a faculty member who has done something especially nice to another staff member or other staff members is recognized throughout the entire school over the intercom. That staff member receives a $10 reward. Added to this is "Gems, Junior"--same thing for the kids.

3. Raising staff morale can be accomplished when student morale is lifted. We lift students' morale by: (Again, this isn't a complete list.)
a. academic assemblies in which students are recognized
b. displaying the "Good Manners" award banner outside of the class.

I hope this has helped you. I really believe that teachers are uplifted when the kids have higher esteem and higher academic performance.
