Sp. Ed By Nikki

I think that it needs to be a cooperative effort on the part of the district and the teachers to make sure there are eligible subs for this Sp. Ed classes. The district can do a better job at offering additional training| for those subs who are willing to do these assignments and the teachers can provide us with as much advance information as possible. For example in the districts I sub for, they use automated calling system swhich allows teachers to utilize a "special instructions" option that would be very useful in providing the type of information that would help the sub in taking over the class. Special | | instructions left could include the number of students an aides, a basic outline of the daily routine, etc.. After a harrowing experience earlier this year in which I was basically thrown into a Self Inclusion Unit with very little instruction, I admit to turning down several assignments since then.
