I have a similar boy this year that has 2 periods of Resource and just hasn't been making it in Reg. Ed. He is such a good kid, but it has seemed so unfair for him to sit in a reg. 4th grade class even with accom.His self-esteem| is being affected. He hides his paper, hovers over so that I can't see to assist in inclusion. He is really on the low end and barely qualifies for LD. Well, we had a meeting with Mom, and ever since we mentioned the possibility of "self-contained LD", she sprung into action, got him in an after school tutoring program, had him do extra credit math problems to help bring his grade | |
up.... and guess what? He go a 90% on his last math test unassisted! Self-contained is not always a good answer as many of those kids are behavior problems and just tough kids. The parent part of the team is so important. I am so much more hopeful that this kid is going to make it. It can happen with lots of support, so don't give up
