Parent Volunteers
By Katie

Clip to ScrapBook
This is my second year teaching and I just started using parent volunteers. I thought it would be more work for me but it actually makes less work. I have 5 literacy centers in the morning that the children rotate to throughout
the week. The reading, writing, and listening center they can do independently but it's great to have helpers at the other stations. My other 2 stations are usually review games or a word study activity. I have 2 parents come in a day to run the other 2 stations. I leave the game out for them and clear directions on what to do. Plus, I have already explained the centers to
the children on Monday morning so everything runs smoothly. Having the parents in frees up my time to work with a small group in the reading center and leaves my aide free to work with individual children or to watch over the 2 unsupervised centers. The children get so much out of the small group instruction that it is definitely worth coming up with the games and activities for each week. Hope this helps!
