help for reading
By Christine

Clip to ScrapBook
While teaching reading in small groups it is important to teach strategies to use when reading. Do a picture walk of the book to introduce any vocab they might not be familiar with. Use guestions such as "did that make sense?"...."what is the begining sound?" "do you see a small word in that word?"...."skip it and see if you can figure out what it might be". I would also consider the small book that you are using. Maybe it has a particular word family used throughout or vowel sound. Then do a mini-lesson on that before reading. I also do the four blocks...there are strategies that are used w/ the guess the covered word game, that are the same strategies you can use in your small groups.I hope this makes sense, good luck!
