You are right in that there are so many great books out there. I wouldn't invest "too much" money yet into books as you don't know for sure what grade you will be teaching when you do get out into the workforce. You may| end up in grade 5 or 6 for a few years and then find you love those grades too. As well, look for books on sale, in garage sales, discount stores, etc., When you first get your own classroom you may also be able to borrow books from your school's library to help you get going until you can build up your own class library. And with book companies like Scholastic teachers often get | | free books and discounts on books and coupons, etc., so we build up our libraries that way too.But if you are like me, it is so much fun buying children's books that the cost doesn't really bother me. So a few other authors you might want to look into.... Jan Brett Dr. Suess Mercer Meyer Nancy Carlson Beatrix Potter Kevin Henkes Book series Berenstein Bears Arthur Franklin Clifford Curious George If you do end up teaching in the younger grades we often do "theme" teaching so you might want to begin to think of some themes you'd love to do. We also tend to do a lot with seasons and holidays so I always look for books that will fit into the seasons, holidays and my themes.
Enjoy your student teaching
