All of last year, I pulled geometric concepts into everything we did in the other subjects, including our read aloud, HOLES. I found coordinate activities online, as well as from different magazines, etc. (Zoobooks had one| that matched our school symbol!). The kids can create their own by tracing pictures onto graphing paper, and then determine the coordinates (they can then exchange with other students to solve). You can use pictures from magazines where the kids cut their picture in half (line of symmetry), and redraw it on the other side). I let them use a mirror to prove to me their line of symmetry. | | THAT was a riot for the kids (!), and this also allowed them to visualize the lines on their own. They then understood what it meant to "mirror" an object with their mind's eye.I just stayed alert to geometric lessons in SS, science (we measured the diameter, radius, and circumference of bubbles!), and I had them look for specific angles, lines, and shapes at home (draw and measure them...). I'm sure there are some great books in the educational stores near you, so when you have some time, you might want to browse through them. The internet is chock full of ideas and activities (some sites are interactive, so you can have your kids do computer time, too). I'm waiting for a class for this year, so I should probably get out there and do the same! Share what you find! Better go before THIS becomes a "grammar disaster!"
