subbing sp ed
By Jami

Clip to ScrapBook
I personally don't mind subbing in special ed. I enjoy the challenge. The only negative aspects to subbing special ed is that often, my role isn't defined. I sometimes get bored, because I don't know exactly what to do.
How much help do I give? How is the routine? What about the kids who I know are capable of doing the work but don't because they want to hide under the umbrella of special ed - am I being too tough w/ them...etc. I have taken a few more sp ed classes than most reg eds, but I am reg ed certified.
Also, I don't think it's a good idea for the assistants to be out when the teacher is.
Two subs in a room can equal disaster. As a sub, I really depend on the assistant to tell me when to work w/ a small group, or do whatever needs to be done. Whenever I sub in sp ed, the plans are not always clear/easy to follow.
