Failing student
By Shirley

Clip to ScrapBook
It sounds like the child is having a very difficult time. I would assume he is getting considerable help from home for homework. How about asking mom what type of help she is giving him at home?? Just be careful to be positive in your approach. You don't mention what accommodations, if any, are being done to help the child be successful. If reading is an issue (usually it is) perhaps it is not that the child isn't learning any social studies or science, but rather that he can't read the tests and assignments. Could you look at some type of modified grading?
Every district and school does things a little differently, so it is hard to know.
When you say in spec. ed since 1st grade, do you mean a resource placement or a self-contained??
