I am horrified to see people say that someone can not go barefoot because it looks 'unprofessional.'That is a sterotype we Americans need to forget. People here are saying that this teacher has problems and is 'unprofessional' | just because she is barefoot! Would Einstein be any smarter if he had the right shoes on? No! Being barefoot in no way affects a teacher's performance. I agree that the kids should be allowed to go barefoot, also. Teachers are role modules, as people here have posted, and it can only teach great things if they too went barefoot. Parent's today are always saying that kids | | only do "what's cool," so if the kids would go barefoot (which isn't 'cool' as those parents say), they would learn that just because it's popular doesn't mean it's right. And to Paul, the "pyschiatrist," I am happy that my children will never be attenting your services. The fact that you said going barefoot was childish and that the teacher needs to 'grow up' has proven that you are some pyschiatrist (lots of sarcasm). How could a pyschiatrist possibly say that going barefoot is bad? Going barefoot has been proven to almost completly nullify the chance of getting corns/bunions, ect, and reduces the chance of athletes foot greatly. Also, going barefoot makes feet stronger. It is proven you won't catch a cold walking barefoot on cold surfaces. Wearing shoes increases the risk of athletes foot, corns/bunions, is the cause of most foot problems in America, increases the chance of spraining an ankle or injuring the foot, creates more lag time to the legs and feet, and many other things. With all the advantages going towards bare feet, if anything, SHOES should not be allowed. I am outraged that a psychiatrist is helping people overcome 'problems' with the opinions that "one has to be professional, and you need to grow up if you are not LOOKING professional." In my opinion, it is YOU who needs to grow up, not this teacher. She is the one who is brave enough to ignore silly sterotypes, while you are not. There is however a small health risk, as was noted here. However, that risk is MUCH smaller than breathing in harmful particles indoors!
