It's Funny. . . Response By Curious

Curious-It's funny that you said we need to supplement computation pieces, we were told not to supplement, we need to use the program as is or we'll ruin it!When first implementing other program's similar, I was told to | "stick with it," and to "stay the course" as not to ruin the program. In the following years, it came about that the program was weak in computation and their were some areas in the program that were not in alignment with our state goals and objectives. So- yes I understand that your first time through, you should give it a good try and not deviate from the program. That is so you learn | | more about the program before making any drastic changes. However, the program is the materials that you use to meet district and state grade level objectives (curriculum). The materials are not the curriculum, they are materials that are just pieces that support the curriculum. So, your district may find that they change that perspective in a few years. Using your old traditional textbook to supplement the program may ruin it. But using materials that have a match to the philosophy or a match to the method in which things are taught will not necessarily ruin the program. I believe the title I suggested, Nimble with Numbers, is a publication put out by Dale Seymour, the original publishers of Investigations. This was a compromise to the all or nothing approach. Supplementing it in a way that would not hinder the learning process.Does that make sense?
