Clip to ScrapBook
1. How did you get into this work?
I was actually a communications major in
college and didn't feel it was my calling so
I took an education class just for the hell of
it and I loved it. The rest
is history.
2. What do you like the most about it?
Sounds cheesey, but I love kids and I enjoy
seeing their faces when they "get it" and
not a day goes by when I don't learn something
new about myself through my students.
3. What do you like least about it?
All the paperwork that always seems to pile up.
I wish I could just teach and sometimes
I feel
like the administration is forcing me to give
my kids "busy work" so that I can record data.
4. What is an important quality you need in this line of work?
FLEXIBILITY: if you are a very structured
person, be prepared to be miserable.
5. What classes did you study for this career?
Too many to list. Sorry
6. Did you obtain a Masters degree?
I'm in the process of that now.
7. What made you want to become aa teacher?
See #1
8. If you could change something about you job what would it be and why?
Like I said before in my distict they are more
concerned with data collection and analysis
than they are with educating children. I wish
sometimes that I could throw all the paperwork
out the window and just teach.
9. Anything ever happen to you as a teacher that you will never forget?
My first year teaching was rough. I teach in
an urban area that is known for its difficult
students. After my first day I was ready to
quit but I stuck it out. I spent all year
breaking up fights, calling parents, doing
all the things that college doesn't prepare
you for. On the last day of school one of my
roughest boys came up to me at the end of the
day and gave me a hug and asked me if I would
be back next year. I said I would and asked
him why he asked me that. He said, "cuz I
know you care about me" I almost cried right
there in front of him. These kids don't get
a lot of support, even at home, so it's nice
to know you've made a difference.
10. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
see above
11. Have you ever thought about leaving this career and doing something else if so why?
Not for a second. I love what I do. Even
when I am stressed, I still wouldn't trade it
for the world.
12.What grade and subject do you teach?
4th grade
13. What are the most important skills you need in this career?
You can know everything about the subject you
are teaching, but if you can't control your
class all that knowledge is useless. I've met
some of the most brilliant people that were
horrible teachers because they couldn't
control a group of 10 year olds.
14.whaen did you know that teaching is what you wanted to do?
isn't this the same as #1 and #7????
15. Would you have any advice for someone like me who is studying to go into this feild as a career?
Talk to teachers!!!
