Seeing the same thing

I am seeing the same thing as you. My kids say they want good grades, but they do nothing to EARN the grades. I have one student in particular in my class who has always made straight A's but who cannot add or subtract (I teach 5th). I wish I could make these kids care about their work and their grades, but they don't seem to care about anything except having fun. I am beginning to wonder if the teachers who had these kids before just gave A's to everyone who showed up.
