Grades By SC

Your post made me glad I got out of the upper elementary grades, where letter grades are used. I got so frustrated with hearing from the principal that I needed to elevate the grades (this for one of my groups that was clearly| the low track). At the same time, the teacher they got the next year said the previous teachers had falsely inflated the grades. I also hated when students failed to turn in assignments, thus lowering their grades. When the parents saw the low grades (and, mind you, this was after the kids were reminded to turn in the work), they said, "Why did he get this grade? He knows how | | to read!" I don't have any help or advice for you, but I felt your pain. It is so frustrating to bend over backwards to (a) give assignments where students can achieve passing grades, yet still reflect grade-level standards, and (b) chase after kids for missing work/low grades, only to feel like you're the only person working to improve the situation.
