A Math Art Idea
By Jen

Clip to ScrapBook
I have listed geometry terms on a paper and had the students work in groups to create a picture on another sheet of paper that shows as many of the concepts as they could think of way to show. I had them work in groups because
I know that not students are artistic, but they could still think of the things to include in the picture that would show the term. The students (grade 5) really got into it and came up with some terrific ideas. One group drew a robot with different things on it that showed the different terms (such as a retangular prism for the body). Another group drew a scene with a house and
yard that had different things in it that would show the term (this group had a pentagonal swimming pool in the yard). Of course all the things in the illustration that demonstrated the term had to be labeled with the term. Students were also allowed to use their math books and ask each other for help. I displayed the pictures in the hallway and announced the group that showed and labeled the most terms correctly. This was a success!
