help is the name of the game By another teacher

Unfortunately, the rude ones are the ones who are attacking her because she doesn't know what to do. She NEVER posted here to get a rise out of anyone--you simply assumed that because she used a word you find offensive, that| was the intent of her post. She asked for help and you jumped on her because in an earlier post she used AND apologized for using the term, retarded. Since then, you have not been able to look beyond the term to offer assistance. That in and of itself is really quite sad. It seems that your responses to BLS are just like the special ed teacher she is working with--you have left her high | | and dry with no support. As for BLS providing modifications and adaptations, calling IEP meetings, etc.--I have to ask a question: Isn't it the special education teacher's job to let the regular education teacher know what the IEP states, what the modifications are, how to implement them, and how to ensure that goals are being met? What, exactly, is the special ed teacher in this situation doing during this time? Even if it is her break time, she MUST provide a plan of action for the general education teacher. I think it is time for BLS to call this teacher on the table--ask for her lesson plans/IEP goals for these children, and by all means, do it in front of the principal or the CSE Chair. I think the special ed teacher is taking advantage of this situation and that is a shame. As for your personal complaint that everyone only understands her side of the position--I disagree. This post has clearly been divided into those who want to offer suggestions for help--those who have acknowledged her lack of training/expertise in this area, her lack of knowledge as to where to start in getting this process rolling, and her general vent that simply "cries out" for assistance out of concern for the safety of others and herself, to the select few who have deemed her incapable of receiving help all because she used the word retarded. ALL of us need to stop the nitpicking here and now and offer advice, not crticism. After all, isn't that what this board is for?
