retarded- slow or limited in intellectual or emotional development or acadedmic progress.

impaired- being in a less than perfect or whole condition; handicapped or functionally defective.
Mirriam-Webster
Dictionary 2002

Impaired is your "good word" for the condition. Which one sounds more offensive to you?

Do not attack another for their teminology just because you have an emotional response to the word that others may not have. I personally think the definition of impaired (not whole, defective) would offend me more if it were my child. Get off your high

horse. The woman is asking for help. Who are you to condem her for her word choice (which is correct by definition)?

BTW- It has nothing to do with age. I am 25 and I think you were wrong to say that "retarded" does not bother older people because they are used to it and have not changed with the times. Try having some respect for the older and usually wiser instead of calling them "dated".

PJM- You were quick to attack and then quick to run away when you were called on it.
