try simon says
By Sue P

Clip to ScrapBook
(or "Miss ______ says") You could spend a few minutes playing in the morning after all your paperwork is done(attendance, lunch...)burn up a little energy by using simon says jump 3 times or do 2 jumping jacks- any movement
needs an EXACT number, haha! but then end with simon says sit down on the carpet, simon says put your hands in your lap, etc....

If you need them to stop an activity- simon says put your hands on your head.

Another one is 1,2,3 eyes on me and then the kids repeat, 1, 2, eyes on you. Makes the attention getting a little more interactive.

Good luck, I have been there too- it is

even more frustrating when you have spent time with K's that were fantastic but can't seem to get a 2nd grade to do ANYTHING without talking....It doesn't always get better as you go up! Also don't always assume it is you. Some classes are just more challenging than others. Sue
