Have a witness
By sj

Clip to ScrapBook
I like the suggestion of taking it to your principal to get advice. That way you shift some of the responsibility of how to deal with it to your administrator, and possibly get some good advice, too. But do NOT meet with this person alone. Ask your mentor teacher to sit in, and simply explain her presence by saying that she's helping you with your conferencing skills. (No matter that the help relates to only ONE parent!!) Listen to that hesitancy you're feeling about whether or not to trust her...have a witness. Set up a meeting with yourself, the principal, the child, and her if you must. Explain to the principal that you feel a mediator is needed because you are both faculty and you don't want to create any unpleasantness with a co-worker.
