What about teaching them a song? There are lots of tapes/CDs with Multiplication raps, rock, etc. I know your kids are not really ready for mult. but some of these songs are just skip counting songs, so they might work. Or you could just put the 5s to a song they already know. This can help them get it studk in their heads.
Another thing would be to take a 100s chart and put counters on the #s you land on when you count by 5 s. Identify the patterns and then color them in. They can practice this repeatedly. Then you could give them #s and ask them if it is one you say when you count by 5s and how they know...
