rough year
By Christine

Clip to ScrapBook
I understand where you are coming from. This year I have a 1/2 combo and I feel like I am constantly lecturing them everyday. This day in particular was especially trying. It was ironic because in their journals some of
the students wrote what a nice teacher I was. Maybe it was guilt ! Anyway, I'm finding as long as I am consistent with them, the easier it gets even if it means I put the lesson aside and go over manners and rules once again with them. The lesson is useless if I don't have their attention. Have you tried having a "secret child" ? I found this idea on this board. YOu tell the class
you have a special secret student you will be watching all day. The class doesn't know who it is so they must be on their best behavior. At the end of the day the student is revealed if they were good and a star is earned. Our goal is for all of us to have star days to earn a free recess. If the secret child didn't have a good day, you do not disclose to the class who that person was. YOu can take them aside later and talk with that student privately. Hope this helps. Hang in there...
