I never thought I would enjoy secret pals. This is my fourth year participating and although I just transferred to a new position it is still fun. I like giving better than receiving. It makes me feel good when
I hear my secret pals comment on what they have received and how wonderful they feel. I give small treats every 2 weeks. At my new school we were asked to answer the most stressful time of the year which I thought was a good idea.
The other responses had wonderful suggestions. Some more ideas are movie passes, books by your secret pal's favorite author,and CDs of their favorite music.

CHICKEN SOUP books are great gifts. Also you may want to give flowers. I know some grocery stores have great deals on fresh flowers. For example this afternoon while shopping at Wal-Mart they were selling four roses for 62 cents. You may want to create and give your own fruit basket. I have done the fruit basket for a Thanksgiving secret pal gift. Candles are usually a great gift.
I shop for seasonal/holiday items. At some discount stores such as Target and Wal-Mart they have great deals on clothing items such as socks, shirts, and vests. I recently bought a black turtleneck with pumpkins on the neck area and a pair of Hallowen socks for seven dollars. Another seasonal items are the tins of flavored popcorn.
Finally outlet malls and stores and craft shows have great affordable gifts. I always carry a copy of my secret pal's information form so I can look to see what he or she likes and also their hobbies. Some of the best gifts I found were when I was on vacation and on a weekend trip.
I am unsure how the school I am at now will reveal our secret pals. At my former school we had a breakfast at the end of year. We bought a gift for at least the pal who gave to us and it was an optional to give another gift to the person you gave to.
