Scrabble
By Debby

Clip to ScrapBook
I have used Scrabble in class for a year now. I spend most of the fall working with words using the Month by Month Phonics book for 3rd grade from the 4 Blocks program and word walls. We spend 10 minutes 3 times a week just building words. I give the guide for what I want - words only that have a short vowel a or compound words, a skill that they need to work on etc. They build words in groups while I walk and check Spelling. The only words that count have to be spelled correctly. At the end of the time period, they add up their points and post on the bulletin board. At end of week, they tally up all points for the week ( good Math as well) By Christmas we are very familiar with words and ready to play Scrabble. Hope this helps Wendy! :0)
