Similar situation By Cathy-Dee

I have a similar situation although my two students do not always hurt other students. What I've had to do is really monitor where they are at all times and if they have a problem with another student they automatically| have to be in their desks until I let them leave their desk. I had to do a lot of observations to begin with and I highly recommend that you document everything. If the behaviour continues you might be able to get him tested and if he falls into a few categories it could mean funding and a TA for your class to help him stay out of trouble. This is especially important if he is really | | hurting other children seriously.I know my two hate missing recess or centers so that's where I put the punishments. If they hurt someone - they automatically miss whatever is coming up next - recess or centers. And it's for the whole time usually. Their worst punishment is being sent outside at recess but having to stay with the supervisor at all times and only stand and watch the others play. The fact he laughs when he hurts someone make me think that testing is definitely an option that should be considered. If he is hurting children during recess as well then he obviously doesn't listen to his mother either.
With role playing you might want to tackle these areas to hopefully help him understand how to act towards his classmates.
- Wanting to join in with others who are playing a game - Having someone take something you have away from you - Having your "friend" play with someone else and not want to play with you. - Having someone break the rules when playing a game. - Having someone hit you or kick you at any time - how to react. What you might want to try is to pick one main topic - how to join in play for example and role play it 5 different ways over the week. One lesson could be how to ask if you can join in. How to act if no one will let you join in. Hope this helps, now if I could only figure out my two boys a bit better
