Alternative Assessment

I teach k-2 in Il and I am opposed to alternative/portfolio assessment. There is no need to complete all this busy work with pictures etc to see if a child is improving or not. There has to be a better way but I would rather spend my time teaching than trying to get kids to assess themselves and don't understand the process.
