noise management
By gc

Clip to ScrapBook
First, as another teacher or administrator to visit you class to see if it really is too loud. Kids make noise, especially since they are not writing or reading yet.

I am very sensitive to noise, (boy is K ever the wrong
grade for me,jk) I have learned to tolerate more noise, especially when my principal said the class was fine.

If you still feel the need for quieter class time. Try this:
Get a music box you can turn on and off. Wind it up on Monday, when the noise level get really bad, turn in on. When the noise level drops, turn it off. Tell the students if there is any music left in it at the

end of Friday you will reward them with a special treat. Popcorn, extra recess, etc.

I am still looking for a music box like that but I am sure it will work.

Putting the responsibility on them is what we are trying to teach.

For now, I use the lights out it gets there attention and then I speak softly immediately after I have gotten there attention, don't turn the light on, until have made it clear what the problem is.
