age discrimination--I'm not so sure By Melissa

A friend of mine lives in the South. She's in her early 50's and is only in her third year in her new teaching job. There's no surplus of teachers there the way there is in some areas. The media specialist who was hired at her school was also an older man. Where she lives, they actually hire retired people to fill positions, because they can't find any other qualified person to fill the jobs. I think you may need to consider relocating to an area where there is less competition. In the overcrowded teacher markets, EVERYBODY has problems getting a job, even those who just graduate from college.
