After reading the entire book, I assigned each child a chapter. They had to make a diorama of that chapter. We covered the outside of the shoebox with red paper and made it look like a train boxcar. We added toliet paper rolls underneath to look like train wheels. We folded and hung down an index card that had the chapter number and a synopsis of what was happening inside the diorama. I bought some of the paperdolls that people are using for scrapbooking to let the kids use for patterns. The Boxcar Kids train turned out adorable and we displayed it in the library.
