Lunch/recess
By Cathy B Ervin

Clip to ScrapBook
I have been a Kindergarten aide for 12 years. I monitor two kindergarten classes totaling 44 children. The classes are divided among two long tables for lunch, and when they are finished they put their heads down until everyone
is finished. My sugestion for you is this: If they do not follow the rules of lunch time they will sit out for their recess time. This has always worked. If the whole class is disruptive I have made them all lay down in their classroom for a nap. They are not allowed to move or to talk.
The main thing is to expect your aide to discipline and follow through. Your job as a
teacher is to follow up with the discipline.
The best advice I have ever gotten from a veterian teacher is this: How you start your first day of school will determine how the rest of your year will go. Remember it is not to late for you to get control. I have experienced the worst of the worst. They get it pretty quick when you take everything away.
Good luck
Cathy
