mom of 2 add kids
By Suz

Clip to ScrapBook
My son and my daughter are ADD. Both are on Ritalin. My son is now ajunior in HS, my daughter is in 4th grade. Neither of mine are GATE, but my daughter is especially artistic and creative, and has won several writing contests
and awards.

I was afraid that if my daughter took rit (as we call it), she'd lose her creative spark. On the contrary, now she can focus and finish her stories.

My son was having behavior problems until he was put on rit in 2nd grade. He has been on it so long that he is very responsible about taking it now, and tells me that he can tell a difference when he forgets.

Don't jump

on a pill as an easy answer to a tough question. If it's ADD, then find out about every option. Some meds don't work for some kids. Adderal and Effexor didn't work for my son--he lost his appetite and couldn't sleep. Good luck
