To Heather
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
Heather I think we hear where you are coming from, but if you read your first vent and then your later vents, I'm sure even you can see that there was no way that any of us could have known this was about something you had
witnessed. You made it sound like it was all about you for the most part.

This board is not for subs - I'm wondering if you thought you were on the substitute teacher board. This is the Vent Board for teachers including substitute teachers. So perhaps you over-reacted to our reactions as well.

Yes there are teachers out there who do not say the right thing at the right time. There

are times in the staff room I may have complained about something or someone and may have even stepped on someone's toes. This does not mean I believe I am better than those who are substitute teachers. I have been a sub as well in the past. And I have many friends who sub as well. There are good and bad subs just as there are good and bad teachers. We are all human and we all make mistakes.

Sometimes I feel I have to talk "simple" to my sub to make sure he or she understands what I'm expecting because in the past they haven't shown they have understood my lessons. Sometimes I have a fantastic sub who can take my lessons and fly with them. There are subs who are less competent and often this is due to training. As some of us pointed out in previous posts not all our school divisions require that a substitute teacher have any type of training. There are those I prefer to be in my classroom over others just because I know they do a better job (regardless actually of their training). But there are some who just do not do a good job and I agree with the previous poster if I could split up my class and have them with one of the other teacher's in my school they would be better off. That however would never work in my school so I know at times my kids will not have the best "learning" experience while I'm away but they will learn something. Sometimes we have to just learn to relax and let things slide as there are not many other options available.
