I would check with your district or school first.

Clip to ScrapBook
I know our school has our own email system through Outlook for our students. Part of the problem of setting up accounts via the internet is that as a teacher you have no control over content. Students are then free to email
whoever they want and say whatever they want. Whereas if the system is part of the school system usually there are ways to monitor and track emails if it becomes necessary.

If your school has no problem I would make sure the parents are on-line with this as well.

It can be worthwhile if you want to teach them how to use email. However they may not be able to use their email to

email other schools if those schools have cyber-guard programs on them. Our school district for example would block most if not all "email sites" for the reasons I mentioned above.
