been there!
By J/IA

Clip to ScrapBook
I've definitely been there! In the end, I decided to back off. If I truly believed that particular student was comprehending the text, and was also really enjoying it, I backed off. My experience has been that this kind of
thing ends up feeding the student's potential for becoming a lifelong reader, which is definitely one of if not THE top priority for me in how I approach teaching reading. The kids I had last year who got so hooked on HP are this year as a fifth grader TOTALLY into that Series of Unfortunate Events series, which is also not what I'd say is the tops in literary pieces, but they love it,
and beg and beg for more time to read. What more could I ask for? I have to have faith that if I stay consistent with the minilessons, book talks, and author talks, I can eek in the kinds of titles I'd like to steer them toward.
Sorry this was so long, but I was just thinking about this today! Good luck!
