Who has time?
By Tina

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi. This is my first year teaching first grade. In the beginning I thought I might do Student of the Week so that each child has a chance to share. But, then before school started I changed my mind because I really didn't
think I would have time during the week. Good thing! I don't have time! With state requirements and just focusing so much on getting students to learn to read, there is absolutely no time for extra. I have trouble just fitting in science and social studies. I did create an attribute chart where the students voted on 7 questions to use and then gave their answers on cards. We posted their
responses on a chart. Trouble now is that we don't have time to allow everyone to share there answers. Now and then a student might bring in something and ask to show it to the class. I give them about 3 minutes and then thank them for sharing. It's not very often and luckily the other studnets haven't caught on.

BUT, if you have already started show and tell, why not get it all over with in a day or two. Just decide to take an entire afternoon to let everyone share something about themselves. You can even give it a cool name like a "Share Party" or something. Then it's done. The kids got to share and you can stop stressing over it. Just and idea.

Hope that helps.

Tina
