Dress codes By Another opinion

We don't have a "written" dress code for teachers at our school, but most dress in a professional manner. I feel if we want to be treated as the professionals we are, we need to dress that way.Trying to look "professional" | always becomes a "balancing act" when you are teaching lower grades and doing a lot of moving around. I taught at one school where one of the teachers (second grade) wore high heels the whole year. It worked for her, but I could never make it all day wearing uncomfortable shes! Personally, I like "dressy shorts" (knee-length) with nylons because you look "dressed up" and yet | | still have flexiblity. When it is really hot, I find mid-calf dresses with sandals are cool and still look semi-professional. In the winter, long pants with a blazer keep me warm.On whether a school should have a dress code or not--when I was called to jury duty they were very specific about what was appropriate dress. Actually I would guess most work places have a dress code of some type--I have no problems with having one at school.
