Wow, I really feel for you. It seems that a lot of us are struggling with less capable classes this year. I have found my second graders to be much less mature than my class last year and have had to change my expectations. I agree with much of what the previous poster said. It would seem this group has gotten away with a lot up to this point with past teachers. If you just let them slide on everything you will look bad when they get to Jr. High. I would definately document as much as you can. Ask some lower grade teachers for a copy of some of their curriculum and try to do a lot of review and ease them into grade level work if at all possible.
