Grading
By ramblin' man

Clip to ScrapBook
I agree with the last post that a computer grading program makes things much easier. I use GradeQuick but would not recommend it too much.

Look at what you do in class and weight accordingly.

For example: Math. We do
a daily math (5pts./day) which takes up 5-10 minutes. I give that 10%. Tests are 40%. HW is usually 25% for all of my subjects. Projects are 25%.

In Lang. Arts though, I grade often on the writing process and final copies. Therefore these make up 50% of my LA grade. HW is 25% and Tests and Skills Quizzes make up the last 25%.

I hated having a distinct spelling grade. Now I include

that within my 25 of my LA tests.

Reading: AR goals = 25%. Book reports (2-3 per quarter)= 25%. HW and tests/quizzes are 25% each.

If you do not have a grading program then it is not worth it to weight your scores and then average at the end. It is too much work (Tests 250 pts. x .40 = ??????). Instead try this:

Approximate how you want things split up (like the weights). Then determine how many tests, hw assignments, projects you will have and give that many points for each assignmentl. For instance, if you have tests worth 50% and you give 5 100-pt. tests, you would need to give 250 points for HW (25%) and 250 points for classwork or projects or whatever makes up the other 25%.

That method is easier once you have your nine weeks planned. Just think back to HS/college. Remember the nice profs who gave you all of the assignments on a list at the beginning of the term with points possible on it? But that takes super organizational and planning skills.
