My experience
By MT

Clip to ScrapBook
I was a perfectionist sort of child who absolutely hated participating in class because I had a deep seated fear of getting the answer wrong. I knew that this affected my grade, and it wasn't until high school that I actually
started raising my hand to answer questions. I would have a teacher call on me, when my hand wasn't raised, and then sit there silently staring at my book until they moved on. This is even though I always had the right answer. I am particularly sensitive to this as a teacher. As long as when I am walking around the student is on task and paying attention, I don't give them a lot
of grief. If I really haven't heard from a child in awhile, I will call on them when I KNOW they know the right answer. I don't anyone to fear to participate in class. I also don't want them to get stressed over whether or not I am gonig to call on them. I would rather they were relaxed. But, don't get me wrong, a kid that is goofing off or not paying attention is fair game!
