dear fellow teachers,i am looking for sub work. i am a teacher w/2+ yrs experience at private elementary schools. i taught general classes as a sub (grades 1-8). was a reading tutor for gr. 1-2. i taught art for 2 yrs (grades pre k - 8) and was a school librarian for 1 year.i did not renew my per diem subbing licence with the NYC-BOE yet. was i supposed to do this in august? can i still do it now? when they state that you cannot sub more than 41 days, do they mean 'consecutive days at one school'? or do they mean 41 days - even if it is spread out over | | 10 schools and several weeks? also does one still need to write out a $15.00 check to ORPAL, or has the fee gone up? please inform!!!if you are a sub who cannot make it to a school, and you know well in advance, perhaps, you can contact me- and i can go in your place that day. other than that i do not believe in yelling at students. for me, if i yell, i will lose my voice, leaving me powerless. name tags are recommended if this is your first time at the school. if i have difficulty right off the bat, i may engage them in a game; usually hang man. then i teach them a new word. usually a college level word. 7th and 8th graders are very impressed to learn a few college words. then if they want to learn more words, i say if we can get the classwork done, we will play more word games at the end of class. depending on how strict the school is, one can also write down names on a paper list or write out pick slips. then if those students remain 'good' thru day's end, you tear up the pink skip or list. thank you, wen
