It took me a long timeto figure this out, but I think I finally did (inmy own head)....

The numbers sound reasonable. Percentile rank means that out of 100, 96 kids did better than this student.
Standard score makes sense as well. If the average score is 100, with 85 and 115 being on the low andhigh end of average, 74 would be a good deal below. Think of the bell curve.
