rows or groups
By Jean

Clip to ScrapBook
Mary - I know how you feel about having the kids in rows. I much prefer groups but when it seems as if they are not paying attention or are talking too much, etc., I put them in rows. I really don't like that because for
one thing it seems like kids everywhere! So, I usually go back to the groups. I have 32 first graders in my room - with no additional help. I am not having fun yet! Most of these children never, ever keep quiet and they are constantly carrying on about who did what to whom! Very frustrating. I have started what I call the learning circle. When I see that there are a few children
ready to work, I bring them to the rug area of the classroom and carry on with the lesson. Sometimes the other children get quiet because they don't want to be left out. It is my most challenging year yet - after many, many years of teaching.
