Well, I am 51 years old but, fortunately, not yet the oldest in my building. There is one teacher who will retire at the end of this year, and she is 54. When she retires, I will have the distinction of being the oldest teacher.

As an older teacher, I try to appear vibrant, up-beat, and up-to-date. I also try to be willing to accept changes that come along. I also work very hard on exercising each day to feel energetic and youthful. I may be 51, but I don't look it or feel it. I think that for that reason, people don't think of me as old, and I am not viewed as old-fashioned.

As for not feeling secure, well, I have only been in the field for six few years, so I'm not feeling like they want to replace me for a younger teacher with less experience. I do feel that my experience is appreciated and respected.
