Didn't you volunteer to be a mentor teacher? I know at my school nobody is forced to do something that takes up extra time and effort.
My principal asks us if we would like to be a mentor and we get paid for it.

It is too late this year to quit (that would look really bad) but you shouldn't agree to be a mentor next year since it causes you so much stress.

As far as recognition goes, remeber who you are there for (the kids). It shouldn't be this way, but most people I know only hear from the principal for something negative or something they need to do. That's the way ours is. I try to get my satisfaction from the kids, not other adults because we just don't get very much praise.
    Good luck!
