I also live in a rural farming community

I understand about your small community. I live and teach in a very rural agriculture based community in south Louisiana. Everyone is related to everyone and bucking the system can be threatening. However, after years of being dumped on the teachers had enough. The majority joined one of the large national unions. The union reps came in and handled it all for us.

We now have a voice. And believe it or not some respect from the community. Many of the men supported us. Because they were workers who belonged to unions.

It was scary, but those who want change have to be willing to risk. Or teachers will always be viewed as a group that can be dumped on.
