Basically, I just lucked into the job. I was subbing at the school in which I student taught, and they were in need of one. The long term sub. was already subbing for someone else. One of the teachers recommended me, I was asked to do it, and accepted it.

It is different for each district. Some have full time long term subs. I think the best bet would be to talk to the human resources person in the district. Inform them that you are interested in long term subbing, and ask them what you need to do. I know most individuals get a long term job in schools that they sub. a lot in.
    Become "known."

You also have to be certified.
